Submit 10DLC Profile For Text Messaging
10DLC stands for 10-digit long code. The 10DLC profile registration process was introduced 2021 and provides a way for businesses to register their phone numbers with the carriers in North America. It legitimizes the SMS messages that are sent out on your dedicated phone number so they aren't filtered or blocked, even when they may contain links or other marketing-related content.
A little background on 10DLC...
Before 10DLC registration, the only truly legitimate way to send text messages in bulk was to use a 5-digit short code, which had very lengthy and extremely expensive registration costs. What this did was drove service providers like CartQ to register one short code and then share it among many businesses by using keywords.
While it saved on costs overall, this created a messy situation because all the text messages for multiple businesses were now blended together under one short code. The application logic had to be programmed to figure out which account or campaign an incoming text message was intended for. For example, what if there was no keyword in the incoming message like in the cases where the customer was replying to a previous message they received? Needless to say, it caused a lot of headaches.
But now with 10DLC, the registration costs are reduced to an amount that make it worthwhile for a local business to be able to have their own dedicated number to send and receive text messages.

10DLC Profile Application
Thankfully, Twilio has streamlined the registration process so that the business can simply fill out a basic application.
What actually happens with the 10DLC application? Well, the application info is submitted to Twilio. Twilio creates a profile and registers it with the carriers. Once the application is approved and the profile is created within Twilio and with the carriers, CartQ is notified. CartQ then proceeds to complete a few additional configuration steps. When that is completed text messages are now able to be sent out on that dedicated number.
You'll be notified via email when your 10DLC Profile is approved, which can take several days and up to a week.
Note that before approval, any text messages originating from your dedicated number would actually be blocked by the carriers.
